The Minta Judd Story

In 1891, the Hartford riverfront is vibrant and bustling with life. During the day there are
still boats loading and unloading at the wharves; peddlers with their carts; tenements housing a
mix of immigrants; and some of the best restaurants in the city. One of these restaurants is
Abuza’s Jewish Family Restaurant.
Front Street…where the action is…if that’s what you want. Some of the restaurants have a
piano player for entertainment, but not Abuza’s. They have eight-year-old Sophie, the Abuza’s
daughter, who loves to belt out songs to entertain the diners, and the people love her. On a
warm summer evening the folks from Grove, Potter, Keeney, and Arch Streets stroll along Front
Street and linger, just to hear Sophie sing. A few folks from west of Main Street might also
wander down……..
